Has it ever happen to you where you pass someone on the street and wish you had your camera and the front to ask them to pose? Maybe the way they dress or just an interesting face whatever took your eye you should follow up and ask, what’s the worst that could happen?
Here are my top three tips for taking street portraits
1) Take your proper camera. As simple as it sounds make sure your DSLR is with you and don’t use your smart phone! People will see that you are more serious and react better when you approach them.
2) Leave your inhibitions at home, you will be surprised by the cooperation most people will give you but do remember to explain what you are doing properly a project or web site for example, if you get serious try taking some business style cards with you so people can see the finished article, who knows this could lead to some commissions!
3) Try and put your subject at easy with conversation, awkwardness can come across in spades in a portrait!
If you follow these trips, you'll be on your way to taking some great portraits.
