Manufacturer or third party lenses?

Lenses are the most important part of any photographers kit, but what should you buy, manufacturer or third party lenses?

When you want to expand you lens collection do you ever considered diversifying to OEM brands?

Some say that third party lenses like Sigma or Tamron, will seldom be made to the same quality of a top Canon or Nikon lens.  However if you are not looking at the top lenses then the differences reduces and the third party lenses become more interesting as they are priced more competitively.

At the risk of stereo typing Tokina are known for wide angle lenses, Tamron for mid-range zooms and Sigma for longer lenses, there are several exceptions to these rules though!

Others may argue that if you have the money you should always stick with the high end lenses, the quality here for me outweighs the cost implication.  As the old adage goes you get what you pay for!

So it comes down to price vs quality and personal preference, let us know your thoughts.
